<a href="#comment-628" rel="nofollow">@Laurel </a>
Hi, Laurel. I'm glad you found the Red Ribbon Army section of that article interesting. There certainly are a lot of connections there.

For the racism in DBZ article I think it will help to have a solid understanding of Japanese culture in the 80's and early 90's, as this is when Toriyama created the series. As well as the decades during and after World War II because of American influence and foreign immigration. I also recommend you look at census information for the mid 80's to see how many foreigners were living in the country.

All of this information will help form a better understanding of how Japanese citizens may have viewed foreigners. And there are several existing commentaries on the subject that can be used for reference. In regards to DBZ specifically I couldn't find much, hence the idea of writing my own.

For my own article I contacted the lead editor at VIZ who worked on Dragon Ball to see how they handled the racial issues for the English edition. The answers were helpful.

I am very interested in reading your essay. Please send me your final version as it may prove very helpful for my own research. And I love reading about Dragon Ball in general, so a scholarly essay like that would be sweet!

Oops, in looking at more of your articles, I realize that you have already addressed the issue regarding the Red Ribbon Army. Very interesting stuff!

Oh wow, that's quite a selection of articles you have started! Particularly, I am wondering about your article on racism in Dragon Ball Z. I am writing an essay on this very topic for one of my college courses! I can't say that I have much to offer, however I was wondering if you know of any good places to find information on this subject? In particular, I am wondering how you will go about the issue of Goku's race. I have spent much time looking at this, on established....well, not much. Also, have you considered writing about the relationship between the Red Ribbon Army (man, that was back in plain old Dragon Ball!) and China? I've noticed a bit of a connection there. It isn't really a race issue, but it is certainly an ethnic issue.
