New Dragon Ball Super Voice Actors Share Their Excitement at Japanese Premiere
At the Japanese premiere of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, an event for the voice actors was held to introduce them to the audience and Dragon Ball world.
Miyu Irino, voicing Dr. Hedo, checked off a milestone on his career wish list with his role in the film.
“This is really a dream come true. I honestly love Dragon Ball, and I’ve always wanted to play a voice for one of the characters. When I was a kid, I came to see the movies just like you all have today, so to think that now I’m standing up here as one of the voice actors—I’m overwhelmed. I feel like I’m dreaming.”
Voice actors for the main characters shared the same excitement at the premier. Hiroshi Kamiya, voicing Gamma 1, had a similar sentiment.
“I’m overjoyed. Times like these make me really glad that I became a voice actor. As for the movie itself, our director, [Tetsuro] Kodama, is simply the best. That’s all I can say.”
Mamoru Miyano, who is the voice of Gamma 2, is also a longtime fan. The return of the Red Ribbon Army, who were most prominent in the early days of Dragon Ball, further added to the occasion.
“I’m so glad to finally be here on release day. I’m a huge Dragon Ball fan, and the fact that the Red Ribbon Army is back and playing a central role this time around is really the icing on the cake. While the movie is nostalgic in that sense, it’s also packed with twists and turns to get fans like us seriously pumped up.”
To go with being in the film, they shared the joy they had from being able to work with the long tenured voice actors. As you can tell from the movie poster and trailer, Gamma 1 and Gohan share scenes in the film. Masako Nozawa is the voice actor of Gohan, as well as Goku and Goten, and Kamiya had plenty of elation from being able to work with her.
“It was a blast! I positively adore Mako-san, so it was very special for me to work together. It’s like when we Japanese people catch a glimpse of Mt. Fuji, we feel like it’s our lucky day or something, right? That’s what it’s like for me every time I see Mako-san—like I’ve won something. She fills me with joy.”
Mako-san is a friendly shorthand the Dragon Ball voice actors use for the legendary Masako Nozawa.
Despite it being his first appearance in a Dragon Ball film, Miyano seemed to have all the trust in the world to act on his own in his role as Gamma 2. He shared some of his experiences in production that’d make you think he’d long been a part of the series.
“There are a lot of scenes where Miyu [Irino] is explaining something as Dr. Hedo, but Gamma 2 is always getting up to something in the background. Director Kodama told me to completely improvise all those moments, and at the time I thought there was no way that even half of what I was saying would end up in the movie—but guess what? They used it all.”
Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero will premiere in the United States on August 19, and around the world this summer. Are you excited to watch it after reading the voice actor’s comments?
