Dragon Ball Kai Returns with Buu Saga

Dragon Ball Kai is coming back! The Japanese voice actors are currently recording dialogue for the Majin Buu saga.

Anime News Network and Kanzenshuu are reporting that Mayumi Tanaka, the voice actor for Krillin, revealed on her blog that the cast of Dragon Ball Kai is back together in the studio. The remaining episodes of Kai that were never finished will now finally be complete.

Why is Dragon Ball Kai being recorded again after it was cancelled by Toei in March, 2011? We don’t yet know for sure, but with the announcement of the new Dragon Ball Z movie in March, 2013 that tells an untold story after the fight with Majin Buu, it makes sense to complete the Kai series and tell the Buu story to the current generation of fans.

Oddly, the episodes are being recorded in Japanese but will not air in Japan. They’re only being made for the overseas audience. Kai was more successful overseas than it was in Japan, especially in Europe and Latin America. And now the kids watching on Nicktoons and The CW’s Vortexx (Toonzai) on Saturday mornings will have a complete series.

FUNimation has not commented on the news or whether they will continue their English dub, but it seems logical since Dragon Ball was the franchise that made their entire company successful. And I’d be surprised if they didn’t have something to do with this business decision. They’re probably dancing in their offices and throwing money in the air as you read this.

This is great news for Dragon Ball fans, because we now have new Dragon Ball Kai episodes [aff] to look forward to.

And the fandom continues to live on!

Hurray! MBuu always was my favorite saga. I certainly won’t be missing the “tapeworm” episode, heh.

  2. Such a great piece of news! The fact that the Kai Buu Saga is going to be created makes me be on cloud nine! I’m looking forward to seeing it!
And… so many thanks for informing us! Without you, we probably wouldn’t know about many interesting details concerning Dragon Ball! :))

My favorite saga is coming to DBZ Kai. I am sooo freaking happy right now. Kid Buu is my first favorite villain from the original DBZ and he was bad ass (especially Super Buu). I am so freaking excited to see the Majin Buu saga on DBZ on television one more time.

    • Yeah, I’m glad they made the decision to finish DBZ Kai, otherwise there’d always be this feeling of incompleteness. Hopefully enough people watch it to warrant making a whole new series.

Hopefully, the Nu Buu saga and the next DBZ film; would make us feel better, after the fiasco that was the new Evangelion movie.

  7. I’m really happy to hear this cause I watched all of Kai on Nicktoons and was disappointed to see it stopped before they got to the Buu saga.

Wow Dbz was more popular in Europe & Latin America than in Japan?

    • Not DBZ. DB Kai. DBZ was gigantic in Japan.

DBZ was the most popular show on the planet on the original run there was alot of filler but not alot in last 2 seasons. The manga if your looking for it is Dragon Ball. All 3 TV shows are based on the comic or manga Dragon Ball all 3 shows are one comic.

I’m so happy but a little worried at the same time. The final two seasons of DBZ are my favorites, and I really hope that Kai doesn’t destroy them. There are so many moments I like in the original DBZ that aren’t in Kai. There are scenes where they change the entire mood from the way it was in DBZ. On the other hand I prefer seasons one and three of Kai to seasons one and three of DBZ. So, we’ll just have to wait and see.

I think the last season is closer to the comic not much filler and they keep kai closer to the manga or comic.

I like kai they took all the damn filler out. But I had to wait for the DVD/Blu Ray to come out I don’t like the editing on TV for kids. cartoon network cut out 15 episodes from the original DBZ 276 when it’s 291. I also got the Remastered DBZ when it came out all movies
