Dragon Ball Kai Anime is Back!
The long awaited return of Dragon Ball Kai is here. The April issue of V-Jump Magazine and their official website state that the Majin Buu Arc will air on Japanese TV on April 6.
Dragon Ball Kai will air at the 9am time slot on Sunday mornings alongside One Piece, and a new episode will air each week.
It has been 3 years since Dragon Ball Kai was cancelled at the end of the Cell Arc and was replaced by Toriko, but now Dragon Ball Kai is replacing Toriko. You can’t keep a good Saiyan down!
The year 2014 is Dragon Ball’s 30th anniversary, and so far it’s a big one!
The airing of Dragon Ball Kai’s Majin Buu Arc coincides with the special release of the Jaco the Galactic Patrolman tankobon print volume and the mini-manga featuring Goku’s mom, Gine.
In addition, the full color Dragon Ball Z manga is confirmed to continue into the Cell and Majin Buu Arcs!
No confirmation has been made about the English dub, Dragon Ball Z Kai, aside from old news from the voice actors that they were recording their lines over a year ago. I have reached out to Sean Schemmel and Christopher Sabat for comment.
UPDATE: Christopher Sabat confirms in an exclusive with The Dao of Dragon Ball that FUNimation has NOT dubbed the new Majin Buu Arc of Dragon Ball Z Kai.
Will the new Dragon Ball Kai have original music from a new composer, since Kenji Yamamoto was let go? Perhaps the man who did the Battle of Gods soundtrack?
Will there be a new introduction and ending, with new animation between commercials?
It’s time to get excited. We’re going to have new DBZ to watch each week for the rest of the year!
Super Saiyan 3, Ultimate Gohan, Majin Vegeta. It begins April 6!!

Hi Derek,
WOW! These Dragon Ball updates are coming in everyday. What a spectacular to begin 2014! The special part about Goku’s mom in Toriyama’s one-shot manga, the full-coloured manga pages, last year’s Battle of Gods, Toriyama-sense’s intention to move forward to a whole new movie starring Vegeta, and now, the return of Dragon Ball Kai! It just keeps getting better and better now that the show hits its third decade and with a whole new generation.
Despite being a 80’s/90s show in my days, it was only Spring 2013 when I was truly exposed to the world of Dragon Ball. From that point on, there was never a time that I did not read the manga, watched the anime, and followed your blog (a reason why I keep coming back to this site). I was a new Dragon Ball fan hoping to make new discoveries about this fictional character’s journeys from Dragon Ball to Dragon Ball GT. People who did not know the show or characters that well or who just viewed Dragon Ball Kai in the past years with fresh eyes might be experiencing the same infatuation and excitement.
Thank you for this news update, I look forward to Dragon Ball Kai’s streaming Japanese episodes and hope that they make new eye-catchers and music.
I think you’re right Marianne. Dragon Ball is bringing in a new generation of audience members with each release. That’s so cool that your experience with it is still fresh. The funny thing is though, I’ve been watching it for 16 years and I still love it. The novelty wears off, but it never feels old. Dragon Ball is a timeless series.

Yep. They can add another one down there for me at 30 years old. Though I have no idea what would be on the other side these days.
Hehe, I think i found my new desktop background!
Can you give me the link to the site where you found the picture? Thanks!
Just click the picture and it goes right to it. Did that not work for you?
It does, but I was hoping to get it in a smaller size. As it does not show all of it when I have it as my desktop background, even when choosing the smallest size possible as background size.
