Breaking news! A new Dragon Ball film based on the manga by Akira Toriyama has been green-lit in Japan. Can you believe it?!

Anime News Network published this Dragon Ball movie news article stating that Weekly Shonen Jump has announced the film in their latest issue.

And Shonen Jump also created a countdown website that is set to change on Saturday, July 14.

The Kanji reads, “最強 (the strongest)、始動 (start/begin)”. Not sure what that means, but the lightning is exciting.

At this point there’s no telling whether it will be live action or animated, based on the existing manga or a new creation by Akira Toriyama.

If it’s live action I hope they knock on my door and ask me to star as Goku.

I can dream, right?

Wow. Has every fanboy’s wild fantasy just come true? I think so!

Send them your Bio. They have to have a part for you somewhere. If it’s an animated feature, you can do a voice over.

    • I’d gladly move to Japan if they had a part for me, no matter how small.

It would also be nice to be a consultant or some kind of recognized expert to help advise the films production.

  2. I’m cautiously optimistic.

    • As long as they genuinely stay true to the manga, I don’t see how it could turn out poorly. Even if it were a frame by frame recreation of the manga, everyone would love it.

But yes, I do have my doubts from having been burned before, so I too am cautiously optimistic.

Has there been a successful film adaptation to date? I think the old chinese one really might be the closest so far. I’m very curious about the surprise…. maybe it will turn out to be a prank hahaha

    • I think the visual effects in the film, Hancock, would be great for a life action Dragonball movie. I know it was a comedy but in my opinion the flying and other visual effects in Hancock were much better than Evolution and most Superman films.

  4. I hope it’s a long movie! It was a little disappointing how some were less than an hour. Fusion Reborn had a lot of potential. I would’ve liked to see Goten, Trunks, and Gohan interact more with some of the villains or having a chance to meet their grandparents, Bardock and King Vegeta.
