Book Price Increase in 2021
The price of my books will increase on January 1, 2021. If you’d like to save money before the price increase, please order your books now.
There are several reasons for the price increase.
Books are more expensive to produce and ship in 2020.
The cost of living has increased since I started publishing in 2012. Inflation, bills and everything else have gone up, but I’ve never given myself a raise and it has been a struggle to run my business.
The average price of books for mass market readers, libraries, and schools has increased across the world. The average price for an adult trade paperback book in 2020 is $20.53, and for nonfiction it’s $28.61. Some of my books are priced at $9.99 and $14.99.
Furthermore, wholesalers want a higher discount then I’ve ever offered. They prefer a 55% discount, but I have been offering a 40% discount in an attempt to keep my prices low for the general consumer. But that meant fewer sales to wholesalers.
On top of that, I publish high quality books that take years to write, and they’re worth more than I’ve been charging for them. I can’t sustain this level of quality while keeping the prices below their market value.
In other words, if I don’t increase my prices, I can’t sustain my business and will have to stop writing about Dragon Ball for a living.
So with that in mind, here are the new prices.
Price Changes
Ebook:
- $2.99 to $3.99
- $4.99 to $6.99.
Paperback and hardback:
- $9.99 to $14.99
- $14.99 to $19.99
- $19.99 to $24.99
- $24.99 to $27.99
- $29.99 will remain the same. I don’t want my books to be more expensive than this.
These prices are still below the average mass market value and remain affordable.
But these price changes will allow me to keep up with the cost of doing business.
The price changes are scheduled to begin on January 1, 2021, on all sales platforms, including Amazon, Apple Books, and Google Play.
